Norfolk’s objective is to establish a permanent farmers market with a wide variety of locally produced offerings that will draw consumers from a broad area, to thereby increase profits for producers that are already established and to create an outlet for small producers that otherwise might not be able to reach consumers directly. As side effects, we hope to encourage producers to diversify and test the profitability of specialty items, and to generally encourage local agriculture and handicrafts.

The steering committee sets policies and manages publicity, and its members take turns attending the markets. The manager recruits vendors and handles the operations of each market, reporting to and advising the steering committee.

Steering committee: Libby Borden, Sue Frisch, Joel Howard, Bruce Hanke, Fay O'Meara, Schuyler Thomson
Manager: Lisa Auclair

Acknowledgements:

Many groups and people have come together to make this market possible. Thanks to the Town of Norfolk for its support and encouragement, the Connecticut Department of Agriculture and the Norfolk Coalition for Sound Growth for funding, an anonymous donor for sponsoring the Backyard Farmers table and our volunteers for all the time they spend helping make the market go. Last, but not least, we thank our vendors and our customers…they are what this market is all about.
